Shichimen Daitennyo Cave

Bamboo

Hello everyone!

I drove to Nishikan-ku, Niigata city, Niigata prefecture, Japan and took a look at Shichimen Daitennyo Cave 😀

FYI, Shichimen means Seven-headed and Daitennyo means Great Heavenly Maiden.

It was on Jan. 13, 2025. The weather was cloudy, and it had some snow piled up.

It is known for a haunted place or a spot for testing your courage, but in reality, it is not a place with a sketchy history but a widely worshipped place.

First of all, I am going to share the photos of the cave.

Nichiren Shōnin enlightened a seven-headed monster serpent living in this cave

This is the statue of Nichiren Shōnin.

Folklore has it that he enlightened a seven-headed monster serpent living in this cave.

This is the statue of Shichimen Daimyōjin enshrined in the rear of the cave.

It is believed that she turned herself into a heavenly maiden and now is enshrined as a guardian for the believers of Hokekyō(the Lotus Sutra).

Because of my mistake, the photos all look blurry, but hope you just laugh it off ( *´艸`)

Uploading the rest of the pics, I am going to wrap up today’s blog.

I’ve been longing for spring as it is freezing.

See you next time. Wishing you a peaceful day (^^♪
