Mochikura Mine Ruins

Cultural Assets

Hi there!

This time I went to Mochikura Mine Ruins located in Agamachi, Higashikanbara-gun, Niigata prefecture, Japan 😀

I had avoided going out because the weather has been terrible for the last few weeks.

The date of my visit was on December 25th, 2024. It was cloudy and freezing.

Came here at this time of year on purpose because you have a higher chance of encountering a bear in spring, summer and autumn.

Putting that aside, Mochikura Mine had operated from the Meiji period to the Shōwa period. In 2022, it was accredited as a Recommended Industrial Heritage by Japan Industrial Archaeology Society.

Allegedly, the Office Ruins were built of slag bricks, and you can tell they glitter when you take a close look at them.

I am going to let my intro end here and start sharing the pictures of the Office Ruins first.

I waded through Isobo River because the Finery Ruins stand on the other side of the river.

I was a little excited. Adventures turn me on.

You will have no problem wading through the river with boots higher than 40cm.

Here are the photos of the Finery Ruins I took after wading.

Lastly, I am going to upload the rest of the pictures taken here and there and call it a day.

See you next time. Happy holidays (^^)/
