Hello there! This time I went all the way to Jōetsu city, Niigata prefecture, Japan, to see a cherry blossom festival called Kanōkai!
The date of my visit was on April 10th, 2025. Unfortunately, it was raining, but this is such a big event in spring where more than one million people pay a visit annually that it was not only bustling with crowds of people but also vibrant with about 4000 cherry blossom trees all over the park.
This year marks its 100th anniversary of Kanōkai, and they celebrated its milestone in the form of projection mapping and commemorative planting of cherry blossom trees.
All right, without a further ado, I am going to share with you guys the pics taken at the event.
First, I am going to show you guys just one third of the pics of cherry blossoms; I have so many of them, but the slider plugin I use could not accept all of them.
They were in full bloom by the way! As of April 19, when I am writing this blog, I am sure that the flower petals are all but gone and they are going dormant.(-“-)
These are cherry blossoms with illuminations called Yozakura in Japanese.
The cherry blossoms at Takada Castle Ruin Park are counted as one of Japan’s top three Yozakura(cherry blossoms at night), so the stunning view will make you moved for sure!
It was breathtakingly fantastic, and a ton of people were taking pictures while holding umbrellas.
I happened to see one of the commemorative events “Test Tree Storyteller” and I took a video as well.
This cherry blossom tree called “Jiiji” through projection mapping was telling a story to the people in the present times.
Here are the rest of them.
Although I was not able to go around all the places because it was super broad, these unforgettable memories were deeply inscribed on my heart, including carp, cherry blossoms, paper lanterns, Takada Castle Three-storied Yagura, food stands, projection mapping and so on.
Well then, I will leave it at that and write another blog when I feel like it.
Have a lovely day (=゚ω゚)ノ
